Madonna, the American singer, started her career in a few bands, but only became well known when she launched her solo career. She has a unique ability to change with the times, both her image and the type of music that she sings. She backed up her musical career with film appearances including playing the starring role in Evita for which she won a Golden Globe. She has sold over 300 million records and the Guinness Book of Records have her names as the worlds top selling female recording artist of all time.

Britney’s career started when she was a child, when she had parts in television shows. She started her singing career in 1997 when she released her début album, Baby One More Time in 1999. It was this album and her next one which established her in the music business where she was always a prominent figure and she broke sales records. All of her subsequent albums produced hit singles. Despite having several breaks in her music career for personal reasons, including counseling through bipolar treatment centers, she is still held in high acclaim and was the best selling female artist of the first decade of the 21st century.

Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston is the female artists that has won the most awards including Emmys, Grammys and Billboard music awards. She has sold over 170 million records and is one of the worlds best selling artists. She comes from a family which has a selection of good female singers and began singing in her local gospel choir. She was discovered when performing in nightclubs with her mother and she released her début album in 1985. She has also acting in films where she has had songs in the soundtrack. Between 2003 and 2009 she released no albums apart from a compilation one. She was undergoing personal problems surrounding her marriage and father and was doing more acting than singing.

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey was the first recording artist to get her first five singles to top the US charts. She started recording in 1990 and then later changed her musical influence to hip hop which proved to be an unpopular move. In 2001 she signed a deal with Virgin Records but they bought her out of it when she had an emotional breakdown and her film and soundtrack project was not successful. However, after signing to Island Records, she rose in popularity again in 2005. Her voice has always been praised and with its five octave range and power as well as unique style, it is not surprising.

Celine Dion

Celine Dion is a Canadian singer and was spotted as a teenager when her manager mortgaged his house to finance her first album, which was in French. It was in 1990 that she released an album in English and she then became better known. In the late nineties she was named as one of the most successful artists in pop music history and was releasing French and English albums. However, she took a break from music to spend time with her husband who had cancer and to start a family. In 2002 she signed a contract to sing in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas and performed nightly for five years. She is the best selling Canadian artist of all time and is the only females artist to have sold over a million copies of two singles in the UK.

There have been claims made that it was a body double that did much of the dancing on the video. The reports said that she found some of the choreography too difficult and was not able to perform it well enough, meaning that a dancer had to be brought in to do the parts that she could not manage. However, the claims have been denied by those involved.

Britney’s spokesperson said that Britney had worked very hard to perfect all of the moved required of her and took six weeks to rehearse it. They also said that once viewed, it would be obvious from the video that it was her performing throughout. The director of the video, Jonas Ackerlund also defended her, despite rumours that they had not got on. He said that she had been really good and even gave him a hug after filming. He said it was the warmest hug he had got from an artist and he hopes to work with her again soon. He also said he could tell that she had put everything in to her performance and that he is a good judge of this sort of thing, having worked in the industry so long.

A still from Britney’s new video was released earlier in the week and ever since the press have been excited by the prospect of her new video. There has even been a version of the single leaked on line but it is such an early demo that it is not even her singing it. This comeback has been long awaited and her Twitter page has some details about it. The fact that her spokesman has sai you need to watch it to see that it is really her, will make even more people want to see it as soon as it is released.

Britney always seems to be in the news with her personal life taking her through a difficult marriage, spells in rehab and hospitals and eventually her children being taken from her. Sadly her child star beginnings seem to have led to problems for her as she grows up, but hopefully this career comeback will be good. Her career has been a success with many number one hits, great record sales and some successful television appearances as well as various merchandise sales. Her previous album debuted at number one, as had four of her others and she became the youngest female artist in the US to have five albums debut at number one. Despite her rocky private life, she has still managed to produce work which has been extremely popular and it will certainly be surprising if this new album does not make it to the number one spot.

One thing about this video that you don’t normally get to see is Britney sporting a top hat. This is cool, as are her various other outfits. One in particular is very sexy, and is featured in several segments. Her hair is done up in a very old fashioned way, like all curled, as if it is from the fifties. She is wearing a sparkling dress that is just see-through enough to reveal black underclothing (of course, what else would you expect?).

Overall, the video is cool, especially if you are a Britney fan. There is no doubt… she is getting sexier and sexier as she goes… and Britney’s die-hard fans will love this video simply for the novelty of it. Is it her best? Probably not. But hey, Britney has done a lot of videos… outdoing her best is a hard task for any performer, let alone herself.

But if you are looking to see Britney in a different environment, sporting some clothes that she has never worn before, and dancing around guys who are breathing fire with elephants doing tricks, than this is the vid for you. Well done Britney, you continue to enthrall us… one thing can be said about Britney… and that is that she definitely holds our attention.
